You're not the only one with questions!
Custom window treatments call for a premium partner. SaaviHome has the answers to help simplify the process of selecting the treatment appropriate for each individual window.
Not at all. If you’re standing 3 feet away from a moving Sivoia QS Triathlon shade, you won’t hear much of anything. At a sound level of less than 44dBA (decibels) for honeycomb shades and 38dBA for roller shades, this is roughly the same level of sound as you would find in a quiet room or library and is quieter than most refrigerators.
They are! Child and pet safety is our top priority. Cellular honeycomb shades are available with cordless operating systems that eliminate the danger of loose cords.
Lutron insulating honeycomb and roller shade styles offer fire rated fabric options. For honeycomb shades, all single-cell fabrics are available with fire rating at an additional cost of $6 USD per square foot. For roller shades, all fabrics found in the Bistre and SheerLite families are fire rated.
No. Custom window shades are made to order and cannot be altered for automated operation once manufactured.
Absolutely. SaaviShades can help to outfit those strange-shaped windows throughout your house. Arches, angles, trapezoids, circles, bay and corner windows all deserve a custom treatment, and we can help!
While it is possible to have both Lutron and Hunter Douglas automated shades in the same home, each system requires its’ own power and communication components to control the shades via smart phone or tablet. Thus, SaaviShades recommends sticking with one manufacturer when it comes to automated shades. Manual shades can be mix and matched amongst various manufacturers without concern.
No. You can feel free to mix and match the shades throughout your home to best match the room they are in. Some rooms or windows may fare better with room darkening or energy efficient shades, while others may be best suited for light filtering or sheer shades. The SaaviShades team of experts will help to determine the best possible shade solution for each individual room or window in your home.
Absolutely. SaaviShades is a full-service window shade company. Our labor includes window measurements, shade installation, programming, training, and 90 days of free post-installation servicing.
Yes! SaaviShades has sample fabric books and can have custom fabric swatches ordered. We will also provide suction cups to have fabric swatches hung from your windows to experience the varying levels of light that different fabrics will allow into your space.
When mounting a shade on the inside of a window frame, it is crucial that your measurements are accurate. SaaviHome recommends taking 6 separate measurements of each window: width measurements across the top, middle, and bottom of the window, along with height measurements at the left, center, and right sides of the window. Next, measure the depth of the window jamb so that we know how much space we have for mounting.
Outside mounted shades will typically sit above or on a window frame. Start by measuring the overall area to be covered by the shade, width and height of the window. For optimum light control and privacy, SaaviHome recommends adding 1-3 inches to the width of the shade if the space allows. Extending the shade on either side of the window will provide space needed for the mounts, reduce light gaps, and help the window to appear larger than it is.

Manufacturing time of shades can vary pending style and brand. The process of measuring your windows and selecting the shades right for your home can take anywhere from 1 day to ~1 month. Once ordered, lead time on shades can be anywhere from 3-12 weeks.
The cost of an individual window shade is determined by several factors, including size of window, shade style, operating system, fabric type, and hardware finishes. Custom manually operated window treatments can start as low as $200 per window, while an automated treatment generally starts at ~$1,000 per window.
The bottom or hem bar of a shade can make a big difference in design aesthetic and functionality. Common styles of bottom bars include fabric wrapped, architectural, or exposed.
In general, a window treatment can be defined as a covering or modification placed on the interior or exterior of a window. Window treatments serve design and functional purposes, such as UV protection, lighting control, and privacy. Window treatments typically come in 3 categories:
- Hard treatments made of materials such as wood or vinyl, such as: shades, blinds, and shutters.
- Soft treatments such as sheers, curtains, drapes, or Roman shades
- Fully dressed windows incorporating a combination of hard treatments and soft treatments.

“R value” is a measurement of thermal resistance – basically, how well something does at insulating. Larger R values mean better insulation, which translates to lower heating and cooling costs. Sivoia QS Triathlon insulating honeycomb shades have a fantastic R value – as high as 4.3. A typical double-pane window has an R value of 2.0, so adding a Sivoia QS Triathlon shade can significantly increase the insulation of a window.
The RA2 Select is a communication and control platform for Lutron products, and can control up to 200 devices in your home with a maximum coverage of 7,500 square feet. RA2 Select can be integrated with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.
Fascia is the decorative cover that conceals the shade roller and any hardware associated with an automated shade. Fascia comes in an architectural finish or a fabric-wrapped finish.
While all of our shades provide a measure of light control, some room-darkening shades offer more benefits than others. A key consideration is fabric type and color. Sheer fabrics typically soften and filter sunlight, semi-opaque fabrics provide privacy while letting in some sunlight and opaque fabrics almost completely block all light. We say “almost” because these fabrics darken a room but do not entirely eliminate light—so they are not considered blackout shades. Our room-darkening and blackout fabrics prevent all light from passing through the shade material. Depending upon the style and installation of the shade, light gaps (the space between the edge of the shade and the window frame) may allow some sunlight in around the edges of the window.
UV stands for ultraviolet. Ultraviolet rays from the sun can be very damaging. It’s important that our window treatments block the sun’s UV rays to protect flooring and furnishings from fading and other types of damage. UV protection is the measure of the amount of potentially damaging ultraviolet radiation that is blocked by our products. Typically for non-sheer window treatments this is 98% to 99% blockage.
