Shade Fabric

Window Shade fabric

Premium fabric for custom window shades.

SaaviHome is here to help select the right fabric for your shade project. We recommend considering the aesthetic of the interior of the room, the outdoor views that the windows provide, and the level of privacy required for each given room. Choose a fabric that complements the décor of your space and gives you the degree of privacy according to the function of the interior space. A sheer fabric may be ideal for a kitchen or living-room application to allow for a view, while a translucent or blackout shade might be most appealing in a bedroom application.

The color of a fabric can affect views and room temperature. The ideal fabric color can vary by project based on location, orientation, design aesthetics, or whether a space requires glare control. Lighter colored fabrics work well in indirect light environments, while a darker fabric will help to reduce glare.

Fabric Opacity

Opacity refers to the amount of light that passes through a fabric. Sheer fabrics identified by a higher light view percentage (5-10%) allow for the most light to enter a room, and offer the least amount of privacy. Blackout and room darkening fabrics identified by a lower light view percentage (0-1%) block out nearly all light from entering a room, providing the most privacy and UV protection.

Lutron Fabrics

Lutron roller shades create the perfect light for any space or activity with an offering of sheer, translucent, and blackout fabrics. Choose a sheer to maintain view while diffusing UV rays that may damage furnishings. Dim-out or translucent fabrics provide increased privacy while blackout fabrics are 100% opaque to eliminate all daylight.

Fabrics are made using many different materials to suit different purposes.

Thermoplastic Olefin (TPO)

Designed to be tough and durable like polyester, TPO fabrics are made with virtually no harmful chemical content, allowing them to often be recyclable. TPOs have additional chemicals to meet fire-retardancy requirements and have relatively poor wear resistance over time.

PVC-coated fiberglass

This lightweight, strong material serves as a good insulator and doesn’t stretch over time. PVC coating adds strength and durability, but cannot typically be recycled.

PVC-coated polyester

Comparably durable to PVC-coated fiberglass, the yarn core in polyester can be melted to make a clean-cut edge resulting in better edge-quality.

100% polyester

These fabrics are made with virtually no harmful chemical content (PVC-free). Polyester fabrics can be recycled and are considered more environmentally friendly than other fabric types. Polyester does tend to stretch over time – most vendors pre-stretch the fabric to minimize elongation of the shade.
